Mission Trails Regional Park - North Fortuna Peak Loop trail:
Depart west Fortuna Staging area (Mission Trail Regional Park - Tierrasanta Side) proceed across bridge where we'll proceed to the Rim Trail, past the Vernal Pools then down to Four Corners. Ascend Shepard's Ridge Trail to Portobelo Trail Junction and begin our ascent up the northern side of North Fortuna continuing to the summit. After a break, we'll descend the south side of North Fortuna to the "Saddle" and descend on the service road, then back uphill eventually to the staging area. Trail has numerous up/down hill sections, rocky with very steep descents.

Rating: Challenging
Distance: 5.4 miles
Terrain: Rocky, Up/Downhill, very steep grades at times
Elevation: +1000' ascent
Trekking Poles: For downhills (highly recommended)
What to bring: Light pack, water, sunscreen, hat, good shoes/boots, lunch or snacks.

As organizers, we will do our best to give accurate descriptions of the hikes we post. Please note, this is NOT a race or fast pace hike. Plan on up to 2.25 hours on the trail. If you're a beginning hiker, a hike's elevation and distance may not mean much to you. Likewise, difficulty ratings are subjective, and a hike that is "easy" to one person may be "moderate" to another. Err on the side of caution if you are unsure.

You're much better off going on a hike that's too easy for you than a hike that's too hard or too dangerous for you. As you go on more hikes with us, you'll become more familiar with our ratings and our descriptions, and you'll learn more about your own limits. Ultimately, it's up to you to keep yourself safe out there. One note, please bring more water than you think you will need. Better to carry the extra weight, than be thirsty.

🌼 Día de los Muertos Celebration in Downtown Chula Vista 🌼

Step into a world of marigolds, music, and memories as Downtown Chula Vista transforms into a vibrant, cempasúchil-filled festival for our annual Día de los Muertos Celebration! This free community event is a wonderful way to honor our loved ones who have passed while celebrating life with family, friends, and neighbors.

We meet at 3PM at 364 Third Avenue in Chula Vista. Feel free to come later and enjoy on your own. The festival ends at 8PM, but please feel free to leave when it is convenient for you

• A beautiful Community Altar at Davidson – bring a photo of your loved one to pin on the altar.
• Altar Competition with cash & prizes.
• Live music and dance performances across three different stages.
• A colorful Lowrider Car Show hosted by Impalas Car Club SD.
• Kids crafts, sweet treats, and themed photo ops throughout the neighborhood.

Downtown Chula Vista – centered around Third Avenue and Davidson Street.

🚗 Getting There & Parking:
• Driving: Free and paid parking lots are available around Downtown Chula Vista, with additional street parking nearby. Arrive early, as spots fill quickly.
• Public Transit: The E Street and H Street Trolley Stations are just a short rideshare, bike, or bus ride away from the heart of the celebration.
• Rideshare/Carpooling: Highly encouraged to make arrival easier and avoid parking delays.

Bernardo Mountain Summit trail

This will be a sunset hike so please bring a headlamp. I will bring an extra couple of headlamps if you do not have one.

The hike begins at the parking lot on the south side of Lake Hodges near I-15. We then go down the bike path off of west Bernardo Dr to the David Kreitzer Lake Hodges Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge. After proceeding over the bridge, the trail runs along the north lake shore westerly for several minutes until the summit trail moves uphill through Felicita Creek.

This is where the trail gets steep for about one mile. It winds near the top for a picturesque view of the San Dieguito River Park, Lake Hodges, and surrounding area.

Trail has numerous up/down hill sections, rocky with very steep descents.

Rating: Moderate
Distance: 6.7 miles
Terrain: Rocky, Up/Downhill, very steep grades at times
Elevation: 938’ elevation gain
1.5mile to peak has 620’ elevation gain!
Trekking poles for the steep rocky downhills are highly recommended
What to bring: Light pack, water, sunscreen, hat, good shoes/boots, lunch or snacks.

Where to Meet us:
Take I-15 to West Bernardo Drive exit, turn left and after .5 miles the parking lot is on the right.

How to find us:
We will meet at 5:20p at the Piedras Pintadas parking lot near the trailhead(close to the port-a-potty). Hike starts promptly at 5:30p.
