South Clevenger Canyon hike-Located @ 18259-18313 CA-Hwy 78

The San Pasqual-Clevenger South trail is 5 miles long. The trail goes east and descends to a shaded ravine before climbing to a 1,400-foot summit, offering views of San Pasqual Valley.
The hike winds around and stays low inside Clevenger canyon between a ridge and the road. As it takes you uphill the hint of Indians and the chaparral cover of the land gives way to a more rocky, windswept landscape. The chairs are on display near the end of the ridge. Then it returns by the same trail for the downhill return.

There is no shade on this hike so bring a minimum two quarts of water, hat and sunscreen. No restroom available along the trail or the parking lot.

To get to San Pasqual and Clevenger Canyon from downtown San Diego, take state Route 163 north and continue onto Interstate 15 north. Exit at Via Rancho Parkway and travel east. Turn right on San Pasqual Valley Road and follow signs to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The trailhead is located 5.3 miles from San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Parking lot is open from sunrise to sunset. The map in the app for this event does not work. Do not use the map.

NOTE: This is not a beginner's hike. We will hike at a moderate pace.

As organizers, we will do our best to give accurate descriptions of the hikes we post. Plan on 2.5 hours on the trail. This is an intermediate hike and not a beginner's hike. As you go on more hikes with us, you'll become more familiar with our ratings and our descriptions, and you'll learn more about your own limits. Ultimately, it's up to you to keep yourself safe out there.
