Borrego Springs Superbloom
Details
** BLOOM UPDATE **
After roaming to and through the prime bloom areas it’s a bit disappointing. While there is bloom it’s definitely not what we would expect. A couple different visitors and locals basically said it bloomed little and early. Not much more is expected.
Im not canceling this event as I am set to stay, camp out and explore. You can still make it a fun day trip with other attractions. You are welcome to reach out to me if you need
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park which surrounds Borrego Springs, may be exploding in mid-March with a Superbloom of some the most beautiful flowers in the United States!
Your host will be there from Wednesday, March 11th to Saturday, March 14th. You can join any day you want, camp overnight, get a rental or return home same day. We will meet at Christmas Circle Wednesday through Saturday at 9am. See more details below.
In case Mother Nature has different plans, learn more about Borrego Springs
Your host will be camping out at a place known as Pegleg Smith
2356-2408 Henderson Canyon Rd
Borrego Springs CA
How this will work Wednesday through Saturday
Using your map apps to find the exact spot to meet in Borrego Springs at Christmas Circle (It's a park).
Right now, do a search on Google, Yahoo or Bing using words, "Christmas Circle Borrego Springs".
We will meet on the East side of this circle. The East side is on the right of the circle as you view the search results on your device (phone, ipad/tablet, PC/laptop)
Open your google or apple "maps app" then enter or copy and paste the following coordinates: 33.256598, -116.374305
Your map app will take you to the exact spot where we will meet (near the edge of the park). This works on apple, android and dedicated GPS devices.
If you are not able to get your map app to create a driving route please ask someone to help you with plenty of time (days) before this event.
You can park anywhere outside the circle - park and walk to the meeting spot.
We will meet at 9am each day. Download the area guide map from this page (see photos section below)
OR download it here: Wildflowers
Arriving later in the morning?
You may want to identify yourself to others who may be arriving later than 9am. This way you can explore the desert together.
Getting to the bloominig spots
It is recommended you coordinate with yourselves to create small groups to carpool from spot to spot. We can follow each other or go on your own. Some people may roam faster than others so pay attention where you are in relationship to Christmas Circle so you don't get lost.
Optional meeting at 3pm at the same Christmas Circle spot. This can be a regroup to share with each other what we saw, where you visited and more. You can go out to roam again or settle down and explore Borrego Springs, enjoy dinner or other "before" sunset. Or, head home before sunset with plenty of time.
Visiting responsibly
- Stay on designated trails and avoid trampling flowers.
- No dogs in flower fields or on trails anywhere in the Park. Dogs must be leashed and are allowed only on dirt roads.
- *Be Patient. The season is short and draws many visitors.
- Rattlesnakes are active year-round and often live among the flowers.
Mobile Phone Signal
In terms of reliability under weak signal conditions, texting (SMS) is the best/most resilient, followed by voice calls, with GPS often being the most independent of cellular signal, though it requires a clear view of the sky.
Must take:
- Water - 2 gallons at least
- Sun Screen
- Hats
- At least two layers of clothing tops
- Shorts, skirts "not" recommended
- Sun glasses
- Best hiking shoes
- Snacks (nuts, fruit)

Those who may like to camp - there is free camping where your host will be staying at Coordinates: 7PW2+FP Borrego Springs, California
It’s a monument known as Pegleg Smith, big, open space. There is no running water. There are clean restrooms managed by State Park rangers. Talk to your host if you may be camping overnight.
