SD Ruby Monthly Meeting
Details
NOTE: THIS MONTH WE WILL BE MEETING IN ROOM 4140 (not our usual room 1202)
FEATURED TALKS FOR FEBRUARY:
Kevin English - "Garbage Collection in Ruby - A Beginners Guide"Overview of concepts in Garbage Collection and how it is implemented in Ruby including discussion of Incremental Garbage Collection and Generational Garbage Collection. This talk is not meant to be a deep technical talk but rather a way to familiarize people with the terms and outlines the algorithms.
Chris McCann - "Phoenix: A Functional Web Framework"Inspired by the success of Ruby and Rails, Phoenix is a web framework built on top of Elixir, a beautiful, functional language built on top of Erlang by Jose Valim, a Rails core contributor. The next generation of web apps may very well be built on Phoenix.
LIGHTNING TALKS:
We still have a few slots open for lightning talks. Feel free to sign up here: http://bit.ly/1Nsq9g8 (Google Form). Lightning talks are 5 minutes and a great chance to dip your toes in if you've always wanted to talk at SDRuby, but haven't had the chance to yet.
RAFFLE
We'll be giving away a few ebooks, software licenses, etc, using our super fun Rafflr!
AFTER PARTY
After the meeting, we'll head over to Rock Bottom Brewery for a round or two of drinks, sponsored by Fairway Technologies.
