The Seattle PHP Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

This is the 3rd and final meetup in our SSSummer series and will be focused on Scalability.

First, Jeremy will provide a brief introduction to scalability, so you can learn the lingo and characteristics of scalable infrastructure and applications.

Second, Ian will do a deep dive into fine-tuning MySQL performance.

It's going to be good! We also have a door prize that we will raffle off for those who attend. Hope to see you there!

  • Jim S. says "Hey Jim, join the conversation!" OK. I think a multiple-Meetup workshop for MVC and apps. using Zend Framework will be great! Better yet, a ZF Meetup if none exists. One meeting ain't enough to cover all bases. Curricula (YTD): ZF and MVC basics (e.g. Quick Start and creating projects) followed by gradually steeper learning curve including ZF MVC controller redirection & forwarding, database, client JavaScript, uploads, tools, etc.

BTW I've used ZF 1.x with NetBeans about 4 years. Use 2.0 about a year.

Let me know what you think. I think lots of developers will get great input from fellow ZF devs.

Jim, I am a PHP newbie but I had to use Zend for my first project because it is the only one I could find that includes the Oci8 extension for Oracle. I wanted to slice and dice the data using advanced Oracle PL/SQL to present meaningful information from the basic data for a website. So far I like using Zend a lot, but I have no reference to compare it with. I am using an Amazon Oracle RDS instance and connecting it to my Amazon EC2 Zend server instance. I was able to test all PHP pages from localhost with the pages displaying the data using a direct connection to the Oracle Amazon RDS instance from my Mac before I uploaded the pages to the Amazon Zend server. I totally love the freedom and possibilities of working with cloud services. I would like to gain more expert knowledge about the Zend Framework from other developers at a future workshop.

I think I may go to my first PHP meetup. Is there a skill requirement to join?

    • Greg B.

Nah. If there was a minimum skill bar, I'd have been kicked out long ago.
