Meetup @ TUNE (HasOffers)

Meetup @ TUNE (HasOffers)

Details

We will be talking about Contributing to Open Source PHP Projects!

We'll take a look at some of the PHP open source projects out there and the tools and techniques you may need to be aware of to work on open source PHP projects.

We'll be meeting at the same place we met in June and July—the HasOffers event space. However, HasOffers has rebranded themselves under the name TUNE (http://techcrunch.com/2014/07/17/hasoffers-becomes-tune/). We'll let them tell us all about it.

Special Instructions

Bring your laptop if you have one. It would be great if you had PHP and Git installed on there too. If you don't bring one, just pair up with someone there.

Schedule

• 6:30 – Arrive, mingle, and eat

• 7:00 – Welcome, announcements

• 7:10 – Presentation(s)

• 8:25 – Raffle for prizes

Abstract

Developers in the PHP community work on really cool stuff. Whether it's a full-stack framework, CLI tool, ORM, or single-purpose library, developers are contributing code, filing issues, writing docs, adding tests, fixing typos, and more. Don't be afraid to jump in and help! OK, maybe it is a little intimidating at first, so that's why we will discuss everything you need to get started. We'll talk about open source in general, licenses, Git, GitHub, pull requests, autoloading and Composer, testing , project communication, documentation, and... well... that's probably plenty. Projects out there need your help, so let's make sure you are ready to contribute. We'll also take a few minutes to talk specifically about the contribution processes for Drupal and PHP itself.

Speakers: Jeremy Lindblom, Kris Craig, Paul Mitchum
