About us

Can you develop your inner energy, or Qi, the same way you develop a muscle?

AVI Body Nature Spirit was created around the idea that you can.

Qi is often presented as something mystical or esoteric. Sometimes it is dismissed altogether. AVI takes a different approach. Rather than asking people to believe in Qi, these gatherings are designed to help people explore it through direct physical experience.

We begin with the body because organizing the body can help organize and consolidate the mind.

Through practice, we learn to bring the body and mind together as a singular unit. Posture and alignment organize the body’s structure. Mobility and strength allow that structure to be held and moved with greater ease. The breath settles into its natural rhythm. Movement becomes deliberate, and stillness becomes active rather than passive. As the body becomes increasingly organized in this way, attention consolidates with it. Over time, the experience of Qi or inner energy can become less abstract and increasingly tangible.

Group practice can also help strengthen our experience of Qi. Many traditions that work with Qi teach that its cultivation can be amplified when people practice together. These gatherings give us an opportunity to explore that collectively and experience it for ourselves.

These events hold no dogma about the single best way to develop and cultivate inner energy. We draw from practices that have endured across generations and from what we can experience and test for ourselves. Sitting meditation remains foundational, and it is how we conclude our practice.

We may begin more actively with yoga, qigong, breathwork, functional movement, or strength training. The format can change. The purpose remains simple: to better develop our awareness and experience of inner energy, or Qi.

We finish with tea and time to socialize.

Bring a yoga mat, meditation cushion, and a cup or thermos for tea. Dress ready to move and bring additional warm layers for outdoor practice.
