Making Qi Tangible: Movement, Meditation & Tea
Details
### What We’ll Do
This is approximately a two-hour progressive practice, beginning with stronger physical work and gradually moving toward stillness and meditation.
Physical Practice | 25–30 min
We’ll begin by warming the body and working the major muscle groups through simple bodyweight movements. Expect movements such as squats, lunges, push-ups, pulling exercises, planks, and sustained isometric holds. The goal is meaningful physical engagement rather than an exhaustive workout.
Yoga | 30–35 min
From there we’ll transition into slower, more sustained yoga focused especially on opening the hips and spine for meditation, with additional attention to the legs, back, chest, and shoulders. Expect challenging holds and controlled transitions, followed by deeper, less strenuous opening as we prepare the body to sit comfortably and upright.
Qigong + Standing Meditation | 15–20 min
We’ll move into qigong using posture, focused breathing, and attention. The qigong practice will transition into standing meditation.
Seated Meditation | 35–45 min
We’ll finish with seated meditation. By this point the body has been worked, opened, organized, and gradually brought toward stillness. This is where we put the preceding practice to use.
Tea + Conversation
After meditation, we’ll share tea and have time to talk, connect, and discuss the practice.
### What to Bring
Bring a yoga mat, meditation cushion, water, and a cup or thermos for tea. Wear clothing you can exercise and stretch in, plus sufficient warm layers for outdoor meditation.
### Where We’ll Meet
We’ll meet at Seward Park. The exact meeting point will typically be one of the park’s shelter areas or the amphitheater area. The location may vary between gatherings depending on weather, availability, and what areas of the park are already in use.
The exact meeting point will be posted before each event, so please check the event details before arriving.
