What we’re about
The Seattle Dungeons & Dragons and RPG Meetup Group is a group run by volunteers, open to anyone who wants to play, teach, talk about, or learn about Role Playing Games in the Puget Sound area. We support Dungeons & Dragons of all editions and other Role-Playing Games (RPGs) like Dungeon Crawl Classics, Blades in the Dark, Monster of the Week, Savage World, Pathfinder, 13th Age, Tales from the Loop, Fate, Fiasco, Call of Cthulhu, Starfinder, or Star Trek Adventures.
We provided a positive, friendly, and welcoming space for all adventurers, regardless of class, race, gender, ability, age, or sexual identity.
We have multiple game events occurring monthly for anyone interested in playing various Role Playing Games, as well social events and workshop events.

We are always looking to bring new people into the game and particularly want to encourage those who want to take the plunge to become a Dungeon Masters and run their owns games!

D&D 5e Open game for Beginners at Reuben's Ballard Taproom 2025
Reuben's Brews - The Ballard Taproom, 5010 14th Ave NW, Seattle, WA, USThis is our weekly drop-in/out game for new players. Our focus is teaching D&D 5th Edition to new players or players returning to learn 5th Edition. We'll also help players learn to DM if they want to try their hand at it.
(I'm mostly familiar with the legacy 2014 rules and I haven't run events since 2020, I'm a bit rusty.)
We will be managing the RSVP/Wait List in favor of new players over players who have been with us for over 1 year AND/OR players attending other weekly D&D 5e public play games. If you're a visitor to our Emerald City, let us know, you may get a jump on the Wait List! Ideally, in that year, you'll learn the game basics, make some friends, and find a home group.
Be sure you have your Profile set to alert you when you're confirmed for an event and respond to messages from the Event Organizers.
Please keep your RSVP up to date. If you're on the Wait List and make other plans, be sure to change your RSVP. If you No Show us, you might get removed from future events. Be aware that Meetup sometimes has a delay on their notifications, so BE SURE to check your Wait List status on the app or website.

We currently have one table for Levels 1-4. Seating for a specific table/DM is generally on a first come basis. Games may be with mixed leveled characters, so a first time player with a level 1 character may sit next to a level 3 character. Play accordingly; hang back if you're weaker, protect your comrades if you're stronger. Decide if your party needs to fight, run, bully, bribe, or beg your way through the game.
We are looking for Heroic Adventurers, so leave your evil, chaotic, solo, or morally questionable characters for your home game.
I will have some paper premade characters (Legacy 2014) available.
Or you can use some D&D Premade characters on D&D Beyond or build a Level 1 character on the D&D Beyond Character Builder. Use the standard set numbers (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). Take max HP when creating and leveling up. You may use only the Core rules, Expanded Rules or the 2014 Core rules. No Legacy or Noncore rules or Partnered Content. I will be happy to sit and build a character with you AFTER the game since that can take 30-60 minutes.
Fighters and Rogues are easier for new players to use to learn game basics. If you're playing a Spellcaster, you should bring your spell details (index cards, photocopies, or digital). Cell phones and tablets are okay to bring, but leave your laptops at home due to space limitations.
We start at 6:30 so arrive early get settled, buy your drinks/food, pick a pre-made character, etc.
Reuben's is an all age venue. Our events are FREE, but we ask that you please support our Host Reuben's Brew Ballard Taproom. We're here at their generosity, so be sure to buy some beer, snacks, or drinks to support our hosts and make it worth their time. No outside drinks, but outside food is okay.
Our tables are positive, friendly, and welcoming spaces for all adventurers, regardless of class, race, gender, or sexual identity. Any negativity fueled by real-world ignorance, hate, or fear will be met with swift action and possible permanent teleportation to the plane of eternal banishment.

D&D 5e Open game for Beginners at Raygun's Lounge in Capitol Hill
The Raygun Lounge, 501 E. Pine Street, Seattle, WA, USThis is our weekly drop-in/out game for new/newer players. Our focus is teaching D&D 5th Edition to new players or players returning to learn or continue playing 5th Edition.
I will be mainly running 2014 rules, and if you're making a new character, I ask that you use 2014 rules. However, if you already have a 2024 character and don't want to make a 2014 character, you're still free to bring them. If there are conflicting rules between your 2024 character and 2014 rules, we'll address those on a case-by-case basis.
All adventures will be at level 3. If you don't come with a level 3 character, you can choose your character from a set of premade level 3 characters I provide (from 2014 rules). We are looking for heroic or anti-heroic characters, with less emphasis on the "anti" part.
Seating is on a first come, first basis. We start at 6:00, so arrive early get settled, buy your drinks/food, pick a pre-made character, etc. If you anticipate that you'll be late by at most 15 minutes (ie 6:15), please let me know in advance, and I will save a seat for you. Otherwise, if there any walk-ins, I will queue them up for any open spaces.
