The free Monday beginner Scandinavian dance class will now continue during the summer, at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, due to popular demand! The class will go from 7 to 9 p.m. on Mondays. It’s free! The dates are July 21, 28; August 4, 11, 18, 25; and September 8, 15 (no class on September 1).

The focus is on beginners; advanced dancers are welcome, as well. Singles and couples are welcome. We change partners frequently, and anybody can do either role. We will cover basic turning skills and variants of waltz, pivot, schottis, hambo, and other lovely couple turning dances, as
well as fun mixers. You are welcome to ask to work on specific dances.

Bring clean shoes to change into, with smooth soles and low, flat heels for easy turning. If you don’t have dance shoes, we have dance socks to help you turn easily. Show up any time; there’s no need to pre-register. Vaccines and masks are encouraged.

Skandia's First Friday dance in August will be both live and virtual! The dance will be held at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98036. So, you can choose to attend in person or via Zoom. No partner required.

Judy and Jerry will teach waltz variants. Waltz is a gorgeous and flexible basic dance. Judy and Jerry will teach some lovely and fun variants that you can use at Skandia or elsewhere.

For this dance, we will have long-time Skandia musicians Birgit and Phil Ages. They know all about waltzes and other dances to get the whole crowd on their feet. Let’s start August off with a dance party for everybody!

You may request the Zoom link by sending an email by no later than noon on Friday of the event to events@skandia-folkdance.org. Requesting the link gets your name on the admission list, required to join us.

Masks are now optional for all Skandia events. If you are feeling at all unwell or you know that you’ve been in proximity to someone who has COVID, please stay home and take care of yourself.

For now, attending via Zoom continues to be free with donations accepted.
