Skandia's First Friday dance in June will be both live and virtual! The dance will be held at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98036. So, you can choose to attend in person or via Zoom. No partner required.

Nancy and Kelly will teach Bingsjöpolska. This dance comes from Bingsjö, a small village in Dalarna, Sweden. It is a calm and elegant dance that has a basic polska turn for the Follow and a “military” turn for the Lead. In addition, Bingsjö’s springpolska will be taught. Bingsjö tunes have a distinctive musical style with all counts equally marked and the use of 16th notes that make the tunes sound busy.

This YouTube video shows the three parts that will be taught:
försteg (walking entry to the dance), polska turn, and
springpolska.

Seattle Skandia Spelmanslag—with a dozen-plus musicians on stage playing a variety of instruments—will fill the hall with lively music. The evening will include couple and set dances that newer dancers can enjoy, the four Föllinge dances taught recently at Springdans, several Bingsjöpolska tunes to give the pre-dance workshop attendees extra practice, and other dances taught recently at Skandia's pre-dance workshops. The Spelmanslag is an open music group that meets regularly in Seattle and welcomes musicians who share an interest in playing traditional Nordic folk dance music. info: Seattlespelmanslag@gmail.com

**You may request the Zoom link by sending an email by no later than noon on Friday of the event to events@skandia-folkdance.org.** Requesting the link gets your name on the admission list, required to join us.

If you are feeling at all unwell or you know that you’ve been in proximity to someone who has COVID, please stay home and take care of yourself.

For now, attending via Zoom continues to be free with donations accepted.
