You've heard of the term "object-oriented" (OO) largely due to legendary computer scientist Alan Kay who popularized it while working at the world-famous, Xerox Parc. There, he designed one of the most influential languages of all time: Smalltalk. You’ve most likely heard about it for decades, how it influenced just about every major OO language including Java, Groovy, Scala, Python, Go, and many others.

People are often under the impression that Smalltalk is a special purpose language, but it is amazingly flexible and widely used! Longtime Smalltalk expert, Carl Gundel from Cincom, will bring you up to speed on the language, what it is and what makes it special. Some of the really cool things Carl will share include:

Why he chose Smalltalk coming from C and Forth
A Smalltalk-based prototype for the Defense Nuclear Agency of the U.S. military
Programming language implementation in Smalltalk
Interactive web programming using Smalltalk
Using Smalltalk as a prototyping and design tool for a smart network security administration tool
And more

Suzanne Fortman will also be available to discuss the Smalltalk community, partner solutions, various Cincom Smalltalk partner programs and the business side of making great software.
