Stan (http://mc-stan.org/) is a probabilistic programming language that interfaces with many languages including R. Eric Novik (http://ericnovik.com), one of the organizers of the NYC Bayesian Data Analysis group and the CEO of Stan Group (http://stan.fit), will be in town to give a brief talk on R and Stan.

We will build up a simple Stan model from scratch to demonstrate various parts of the Stan program and will also present a multi-level, overdispersed Poison model that can be used for pricing products in a retail setting. We fit the latter model with the rstanarm (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/rstanarm/index.html) package, which can be thought of as a fully Bayesian equivalent to lme4 (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/lme4/index.html).

We will meet at the usual place at FHCRC (follow the signs upon arrival at the building). Meeting will be in Arnold building (near Green V on this map (http://www.fredhutch.org/en/contact-us/visit-us.html))

We will have the usual pizza and soda with a donation jar to help defray the costs.
