Our Sunday weekly meetups are in Seattle at Stoup Brewing on Capitol Hill! This meetup is for players of any skill level, be it first-time players or seasoned veterans. Tables for new players who want to learn how to play can be set up upon request.

To streamline smooth gameplay and scheduling, all non-teaching tables will be set to 75 minutes +1 hand for each hanchan. This will allow for the following schedule for people to plan around when they would like to come and play:
1. 12:15 PM
2. 2:00 PM
3. 3:45 PM
4. 5:30 PM
5. 7:15 PM

Parking is free on Sundays, but may still be limited. Plan some extra time for finding parking and walking to the location. The 2 bus line stops directly at this location. You can also take the light rail to Capitol Hill Station and then you can get to Stoup with a ~10 min walk south on Broadway.

## FAQ

What time are people playing?
Most players arrive around 12 PM to 2 PM and the afternoon is the busiest. However, we have regulars who will come at noon and stay until closing at 9 PM. No matter what time you come, there will be people playing mahjong!

Where in Stoup do people play?
We always play at the square tables next to Stoup’s Union St entrance.

What does 75 minutes + 1 timer mean?
This means that a table will play its hands for 75 minutes, and once the timer is up, the table will finish the current hand and be allowed to play 1 final hand with no time restriction.

What happens if everyone is already in a game when I arrive?
Ideally, with the scheduling, you will know when to arrive in order to not wait long for the start of a new game. If there are 4 people available to make a table and it isn't running too late, we can give a little leeway to make a new table. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until the ongoing games are done. Typically, we wait for all the current games to finish before starting new ones. This allows us to mix up tables, ensuring players don’t repeatedly play with the same group.

If you want to get into a table quickly, we recommend coming early so you are placed in the first or second round of pairings of the day.

I don’t know how to play. Is that okay?
Yes! When you come, let us know you’re new to the game and we can set aside a table to teach you the rules. Riichi mahjong is a very complex game and we understand it takes time to learn the game.

If you want to prepare, here are some beginner-oriented resources, though they are by no means required to come to the Meetup. We’re more than happy to teach you from scratch.

We now have weekly meetups on Tuesdays in Bellevue! Located on the second floor of Lincoln Square South, near the Great State Burger. We do not have the infrastructure to support teaching/learn-to-play, so this meetup is primarily for people who know how to play already. If you wish to learn, please check out the meetups we hold on Sundays in Capitol Hill at Stoup Brewing.
