What we’re about
Welcome to the Seattle World Music Group. This group promotes local world music events and supports world music artists, providing information about them and education about their music.
Generally the term World Music conjures up the sounds of traditional or folk ethnic music not originated from the United States. However we would like to keep the definition broad to include music ranging from our own contemporary or traditional Native American music to techno or hiphop beats against any ethnic sound... We encourage meetup attendees to communicate with each other for pre or post meetup functions as it's not always possible for the World Music Organizers to attend. We would like to get together once a month to share news about events, exchange world music CD's, and discuss World Music Meetup opportunities for our group. Hopefully the event postings will in some way indicate the style of music within its world music genre so that you may choose the music that suits your tastes. Don't be shy to experiment a little, you may find that it may expand your musical palate :-)
