Hikers are a unique breed - we cross one another's paths, learn of each others' lives and establish a camaraderie with one another and our environments. We see one another as vibrant and adventurous, so it comes as a surprise when one of us passes away too young. Mary Van Buren (known usually as just Mary) was one such hiker. You may have met her on trail with this or other hiking groups. She possessed all of the attributes that make co-hikers such great company: energy, enthusiasm and a happy, victorious smile at the end of a strenuous hike.
Mary just passed away in Late March from a sudden illness. There will be calling hours at the Watkins Funeral Home in Manchester. If you are inclined and able to go, you may attend for just a few moments or the bulk of the calling hours.
This will not be a "formal" meet-up, complete with signs - just an opportunity to pay homage to a fellow traveler.
