What's a freethinker (one word)? A "freethinker" is a person who arrives at beliefs without relying solely on tradition, dogma or the opinions of authority. Freethinkers insist on using reason, logic and evidence to form reasonable and justified beliefs.
Memphis Freethought Alliance is composed of atheists, agnostics, skeptics, non-theistic naturalists, secular humanists and others who share our vision.
Discovering the Past - A Personal Perspective
Memphis Freethought Alliance honors African-American History Month with a very special guest. Professor DiAnne Malone has spent years tracing her family's history from its roots in Africa, through slavery on the Lenoir Plantation in Monroe County, MS, to the modern day. What she has discovered is important to her, personally. It is also important to our community and nation.
Here is a news article from the Monroe Journal about her research.
Memphis writer traces her family’s history back to Lenoir Plantation:
Professor Malone teaches African-American studies part-time at the University of Memphis. She is also a full-time associate dean of student services and associate professor of English at Union University.
The MFA Library Lecture Series is a service to the community. It is designed to present a wide variety of views and topics. The opinions expressed at these events are those of the speakers and do not necessarily represent the opinions of MFA or the Executive Board.
Memphis Freethought Alliance is a 501(c)3 organization. We do not endorse political candidates or parties.
