]Names have a variety of ways in which they shape us socially and culturally and color how we experience the world. In some cultures names are given to babies before they are born while in others they don't receive names until well after birth. Some people, especially trans people, adopt chosen names very different from their given names.

We can also attach great meaning to our family names, tracing them back through history or being proud of certain family members.
We use names to recognize and distinguish between others and ourselves, and they are one of the many contributors to our identities. Yet, at the same time, many of us may go our whole lives without ever considering the impact of names on our identities or our experience in the world.

Questions:
- What is the impact of a given name vs. a chosen name?
- Some people, such as trans people or immigrants, may choose a new name for themselves as they start a new life; how do these name choices reflect the different interests, motivations, and/or considerations of different groups and how they relate to others?
- How has your name shaped (or not shaped?) the way you have moved through the world?
- Is nominative determinism real or just confirmation bias?
