Sensemakers Newsletter Oct.2018

Hi all,

Hope you’re all doing fine! We’re very excited to visit the new Amsterdam Biolabs next week, learning about the possibilities of DIY biotech and the Lab based at A LAB, a real “living lab” where a lot of tech & creative experimenting takes place.

We’re also happy to see the DIY evenings taking of, the group working on waterquality has installed their overflow-sensors in the sewer at Marineterrein. The data is, of course, coming in via The Things Network😊
The work on waterquality will continu as we still need to learn/do a lot in relation to the back end. But on Nov. 21th together with Marineterrein we’ll host a event about Sound and/in the City. The objective is to define a new sensemaking project to collaborate on! So please join us in learning, brainstorming and collaborating!

  • Beginner Kit for Arduino App on Google Play
  • Free IoT-security guide
  • When tech knows you better than yourself in Wired
  • Nice project in Italy: The Crowd4roads idea of using smartphone in-car gaming to collect sensor data measurements on road bumps and potholes worked quite well this Summer. (Source: Marta Arniani, Futuribile)
  • We’ve mentioned it before, several people from all over the continent and different backgrounds have been working on an open certification mark for #iot products. In light of the increasing landscape around this topic they've settled for an assessment tool that helps early stage companies look at their development in light of challenges across: security, ethics, end of life customer support, interoperability, GDPR. It's available now, so try it out: (source: @iotwatch)

  • October 20th – 28th: The Dutch Design Week
For all your inspiration on design, technology and so much more…
  • October 27th: The Intel AI DevCamp
Along with hands-on technical trainings from Intel® experts, local startups at the forefront of AI innovation will share their latest insights and projects. Attendees will gain an understanding of how to build a deep learning solution using AI optimized Caffe and Tensorflow using the Intel® AI DevCloud and will have a chance to implement an image classification model on these frameworks using two popular networks.
25-35 of our Sensemakers participants can register as ''Early Bird'' attendees, getting priority and saving their seats for this full-day conference (since this is a free event where anyone can sign up to, there will be a lot of attention). Interested? Contact [address removed]
  • Nov. 24-25th BrightDay
Try and experience 3D printed food, a great variety of robots (Sophia, ANYmal) and much more…

Please let us know if you have a nice event, article or job opportunity that you want to share in our monthly newsletter!

Best, Manon & Ted
