Sensemakers Monthly Newsletter

From: Manon
Sent on: Sunday, December 15, 2019 4:38 PM

Hi all,

The days are shortening, this Wednesday already the last meeting of this decade! We’ll bring extra drinks & raffle of a ticket for The Things Conference to celebrate! And of course we have special speakers; a practical case on sensing from Living Lab Stratumseind & a talk and demo on how to apply machine learning from AI Cafe!
This will be our last meeting at the beautiful Codam Coding College. We’re very grateful for their hospitality and the chance to meet inspiring students! Luckily we can stay at the Marineterrein, in 2020 the presentation evenings will be hosted at the Commandantswoning thanks to Bureau Marineterrein!
Our DIY LAB evenings will continue to be in the Makerspace of the OBA, starting Jan. 8th. Because so many new people discover this possibility to learn by doing in good company, we’re running out of starterkits. We posted a call for sponsors on LinkedIn and hope you can support it by liking/sharing😊

  • On social media we see a lot of (seemingly) interesting articles with shortened url’s. Via the website you can check where a shortened url is really going!

  • Interesting analysis of LoRa and NB-IoT seizing the market for long range IoT networks

  • Internationally there are a lot of citizen science projects, here are some examples that you can join:
    •   The international movement of citizen measuring gamma radiation. More information here where you can also find info about other initiatives & the sensorkit
    •   Luftdaten is one of the largest and fastest growing citizen science communities in the field of air quality. All the worldwide data is now shown on Also very interesting to check during the fireworks marking the start of the new year. More information about how to join and make your own sensor see here (in 8 languages!)
In the Netherlands RIVM plays an important role in this field, they wrote an article on the Dutch Innovation Program for Environmental Monitoring.
    •   SatNOGS project is a complete platform of a open satellite ground-station network. An observer is able to take advantage of the full network of SatNOGS ground stations around the world. It's part of the SatNOGS project. Check an overview of the crowdsourced satellite operations here.

We often have free tickets to share as well, but those are raffled off at our events and/or on Slack.
