Hail, brave adventurers!

During this session, we will be doing a full Session 0 for a new D&D campaign. This campaign will play on a bi-weekly basis (Either every other Wednesday, every other Monday, or possibly alternating between Wednesdays and Mondays depending on group availability).

Please come prepared with THREE character ideas. These do not have to be complete character sheets. Species/class/subclass and a 1-2 sentence backstory is plenty to get us started. Having multiple character ideas makes it easier to balance the party and make sure we have the “right” characters for whichever story we choose to go with. DO NOT set anything in stone for these characters because you may need to tweak them to fit the setting, tone of the game, etc.

Please read the three story prompts and put them in order from Favorite to Least Favorite. This will help us choose which one to do:

  1. You’re rookie Park Rangers in the sprawling royal forest outside the city. You start getting reports of (and eventually seeing for yourselves) strange activities. Cryptids. Portals. People disappearing. Your superiors are either oblivious, or unwilling to share what they know. It’s up to your party to solve the mystery.
  2. You are recruited into a shadowy government organization with one directive: Hunt down and acquire powerful magic items by any means necessary. As you are largely kept in the dark. “Need to know” as they say, you start to grow suspicious of the organization’s motives.
  3. You are parents in a large van driving your kids to a soccer game in “the real world”. Out of nowhere, a portal opens beneath you. There is a crash. When you come to, the kids are gone, you are surrounded by goblins, and there are… strange changes within you that you can’t explain. You need to find the kids and find a way home.

We will also be discussing some safety tools that we will be using for this campaign (These are tools to help us avoid sensitive content, as well as ways to address unexpected issues that pop up along the way).

What you need:

  • A free DnD Beyond account.
  • A free Discord account
  • A decent microphone/headset (I use a very cheap generic gaming headset, and it works just fine).
  • An internet capable device that is able to handle running the voice chat and the virtual tabletop. A laptop or desktop computer is best, but I’ve had players successfully use a tablet or cell phone as well.
