🌹 Father John Misty @ Mission Ballroom

Details
Father John Misty delivers lush, theatrical folk-rock that’s as tender as it is tongue-in-cheek. His shows feel like part lounge act, part existential sermon—grand, ironic, romantic, and slightly unhinged. If you like your ballads poetic and your banter razor-sharp, this one’s for you.
> “Josh Tillman croons like a fallen angel, swaddled in strings and sarcasm.”

- 🔹 Who He Is: The alter ego of Josh Tillman (ex-Fleet Foxes drummer), FJM crafts sweeping orchestral folk layered with wit, cynicism, and the occasional existential crisis.
- 🔹 If You Like: Fleet Foxes, Weyes Blood, Leonard Cohen, Rufus Wainwright
- 🔹 Essential Track: “Holy Shit” — part hymn, part breakdown, part thesis on modern romance.
- 🔹 Must-Listen Album: I Love You, Honeybear — a dizzying, devastating love story told in string sections and smirks.
- 🎤 Why This Show? Because sometimes you need your Sunday service delivered in a velvet blazer with a side of satire and a 10-piece band.
- 📍 Meetup Plan: Meet at Brew Dog at 6:30 PM for pre-show drinks and philosophy before heading into the ballroom.
- 🎟️ Tickets: $65 at AXS.
This may be a DIY event 🔥
As a top-voted show for our group, this possibly-DIY meetup is a chance to connect—even if I can’t (yet) commit to hosting it myself! Plan to make it your own, using the comments to coordinate. And maybe I'll be able to commit soon.
Q: What's the RSVP policy?
A: RSVP etiquette is crucial! No-shows can throw off the vibe of the event, so we kindly ask that you shoot the host a message or un-RSVP before the event starts if you can't make it. Two no-shows may result in removal from the group.
Q: How can I support?
A: Did you know that your humble organizers pay about $360 a year to bring events to you on Meetup? A tiny annual donation from you is all it takes to keep the events coming. Suggested donation is $5/event or $20 for unlimited events. Just send a Venmo/Paypal to me @mandirao (or ask me for Zelle). Couldn't do it without you!
