Southeastern Virginia Atheists, Skeptics, & Humanists (SEVASH) is a chapter of Washington Area Secular Humanists (WASH). By joining WASH at http://wash.org/join/ you help support our activities!
We're an informal social group that promotes fellowship and networking through social and community building activities. Our membership includes atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers, and the otherwise “unchurched”, as well as scientific skeptics, critical thinkers, and like-minded individuals as well as our friends and family.
This group provides an opportunity for us to talk and share ideas in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. We discuss the issues of the day and whatever else is on our minds. But most of all, we have fun while promoting science, reason, and secular values. We also welcome those who may hold differing views to join in the discussion (as long as the dialogue is civil and constructive).
What is skepticism? We are all skeptics. Skepticism is a part of everyday common sense we all use; it is also a key component of scientific thinking. It helps lead to fact-based judgments about what is real and what is not. It allows you to see for yourself which claims you’ve heard stand up to tests of evidence and which do not. We host a wide range of events such as brunches, dinners, book discussions, films, and attending events held or sponsored by skeptical/secular organizations, and even doing some activism of our own.
In order to protect the privacy of our members, membership requires approval, and all postings / meetup locations are not viewable by non-members.
