Symantec C++: "C++ Today — The Beast is Back"

Details

Notice the earlier time; hopefully we'll get everyone upstairs before the elevators go into nighttime mode. :)

This month, Jon Kalb will present a historical perspective of C++ focusing on what’s going on in the C++ community right now and where the language and its user base is heading.

With a renewed interest in performance for both data centers and mobile devices, and with the success of open source software libraries, C++ is back and it is hot. This talk will explain why C++ is most software engineers’ go-to language for performance.

Jon will deliver a rough historical sketch that puts C++ in perspective and covers its popularity ups and downs.

Jon Kalb is a freelance C++ instructor and the chair of CppCon, C++Now, and the Boost Steering Committee.

He has been programming in C++ for over 25 years and has written C++ for Amazon, Apple, Dow Chemical, Intuit, Lotus, Microsoft, Netscape, Sun, and Yahoo!

Jon has taught C++ at the graduate school at Golden Gate University in San Francisco and is a Microsoft MVP.
