Humans are storytelling creatures. We’ve evolved to use stories to learn, connect, and empathize. Our stories help us navigate the ups and downs of life. Stories make us who we are.
That’s why when we get together to share and listen to our personal stories, there is magic in the air. As we come into the new phase of life post-COVID, we can all use more spaces to connect deeply with each other while sharing our stories.
The SF Bay Area Storytelling Meetup is a community for people who love the art and science of storytelling, and want to meet fellow storytellers to swap tales and further develop our craft. We are mainly focused on telling true, personal stories. But stories can come in many shapes and sizes, so all people with a passion for exploring the storytelling art form are welcome.
The SF Bay Area Storytelling Meetup is organized by Liz Morrison - a Strategic Storytelling consultant, workshop facilitator, and storytelling event host. Liz is on a mission to help organizations and individuals intentionally shape and share their stories to drive positive change. Her winding storytelling journey includes 15 years producing human-centered content for companies (Airbnb), campaigns (Obama 2012), causes (Idealist.org), and cable (Bravo, NatGeo, Discovery); sharing her own stories on stage at The Moth, Beyond Borders Storytelling, and About Last Night; and using tarot cards to guide introspective coaching sessions for individuals and groups. Join us for an interactive storytelling event where we’ll celebrate our birthday stories (even if it’s not your birthday!)
Blowing out candles that refuse to extinguish. Unwrapping that hilariously terrible gift from your well-meaning aunt. The moment you realized your "surprise" party wasn't actually a surprise (but you pretended anyway).
Whether you're a birthday enthusiast or someone who mysteriously "gets food poisoning" every year on your special day—we all have birthday stories to tell!
Join Story Coach Liz Morrison for a special BIRTHDAY-themed edition of Storytime—and yes, it happens to fall on her birthday weekend! (Turning 40 calls for extra celebration, right?)
In this special edition of Storytime, we’re diving into the stories behind the candles.
✨ What was your most memorable childhood birthday? What made it special?
🎈 What rituals do you return to year after year?
🎁 What’s the best (or worst) gift you ever received?Together, we’ll explore our stories in three interactive acts:
🎂 THEME INTRO: We'll explore birthdays through playful games, group discussions, and I'll share a story about my 21st birthday spent alone at a hostel in LA... well, you'll have to come hear what happened!
💬 COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS: In small groups, we'll swap stories about birthday traditions, astrological insights (calling all Geminis!), memorable celebrations, and birthday mishaps that still make us laugh years later.
🎤 STORYTIME! EXCELLENT!: 3-5 brave souls will share their birthday stories with the whole group—the hilarious, the heartwarming, and everything in between.
Come for the community. Stay for the stories. Leave a little more connected.
No storytelling experience needed—just bring your real self.
