Dimond Canyon - Joaquin Miller 8 mile Hike followed by Ghost Town Brewery

Join us for this hike beginning on an urban staircase path to Bridgeview trail. We'll hike up Dimond Canyon to Monterey Blvd and walk a short stretch along Monterey Blvd to a tunnel underneath Highway 13 to connect to Palos Colorados Trail via a small parking lot close to JM Court. Palos Colorados Trail is dreamy. We will climb steeply for about a mile then hang a left on Sunset Trail for a loop in Joaquin Miller Park via Chapparal to Sequoia Bayview to Sunset and back down the way we came. Most of the elevation gain will be in the first half of the hike.

We will leave promptly at 10 minutes past the start time and will be finished by 3:00 pm or sooner.

HIKE RATING: Moderate, ~8 miles, ~1300 ft of climbing

HIKING PACE: 2.5 mph. If you don’t have recent experience accomplishing a hike of this distance and difficulty and at this pace, please consider joining us another time. A map will be provided for you at the beginning of the hike in case the group is separated.

WHAT TO BRING: Sturdy hiking shoes or trail runners, snacks and water, comfortable clothing.

COVID RULES: All hikers must carry a face covering, although it is up to each hiker whether or not to wear it while hiking. Everyone must wear their face covering when approaching others on the trail who are wearing their masks. Stay home if you don’t feel well or if you have had close contact with anyone with Covid in the last 14 days.

BATHROOMS: we will make a bathroom stop about 2/3 of the way through the hike.

START LOCATION: We'll meet in front of Red Boy Pizza (which is closed when we start) near the urban staircase path. If you are driving, please allow 5-10 minutes to park in the neighborhood and walk up.

POST HIKE PLAN: We'll meet at Ghost Town Brewery post-hike to raise a glass and chow down on good eats outside at 3506 Macarthur Boulevard, https://www.ghosttownbrewing.com/taproom
