Visualizing Geospatial Data

Details

Geospatial data is probably one of the hottest growing data types at the moment. The objective is to visualize large and complex geospatial data sets in order to build location aware applications. However this process comes with its own handful of challenges, from both technical and design points of view.

The recently released CartoDB 2.0, an Open Source Geospatial database, helps you analyze, visualize and build location aware apps with geospatial data. At this workshop we will be exploring some of the latest trends of geospatial data visualization using JS and CartoDB.

Javier de la Torre (https://twitter.com/jatorre) is CEO and co-founder of Vizzuality (http://vizzuality.com/), a company that aims to deliver great user experiences for organizations that make the world a better place. Over the past ten years, he has become a recognized expert in the field of biodiversity informatics, both through academia and the private sector. He is part of the board of the Citizen Science Alliance, where crowdsourcing applications like OldWeather and PlanetHunters were developed. Planet Hunters has lead to the discovery of 3 new extrasolar planets. Most recently, Javier founded CartoDB, a geospatial platform that allows users to visualize data quickly and easily on maps.
