SF Bitcoin Devs Seminar: Althea- Incentivized Mesh Networking
Details
Jehan Tremback (https://twitter.com/jtremback) will speak about Althea (http://altheamesh.com/), a set of low-level mesh networking protocols designed to replace ISPs with micropayments.
"Maidsafe, IPFS, and many others seek to create a 'decentralized internet' which will reduce costs and free consumers from corporate and government control. However, none of these projects deal with the actual network infrastructure that delivers data packets across the world. Althea is a set of low-level mesh networking protocols allowing backbone and last-mile routers to pay each other in Bitcoin (or conventional currencies), per-packet, eliminating the role of corporate and government ISPs.
This talk will focus on Universal Payment Channels, the micropayments standard enabling the network. UPC can be used for more than just mesh networks, it is useful for any application which requires scalable p2p micropayments in any currency and across currencies."
Jehan has been working with cryptocurrencies for 2 years, focusing on micropayments and networks. Previously, he worked on Dogewand, a point-and-click Dogecoin tipping app.
