Clover Health (https://www.cloverhealth.com/en/)’s data is created by the thousands of interactions with their members and providers on a daily basis: in doctors’ offices, pharmacies, their homes, and over the phone.

As an insurance plan, Clover Health has the power to collect this medical data -- but in order to use it, we have to deal with misaligned definitions, changing identities, and complex healthcare regulations that can make choosing the right tools an arduous process. At this Meetup, data scientists from Clover Health will shed light on how they overcome these obstacles.

Talk 1: Building Data Science in Healthcare
In this talk, Tristan will explain how the Clover data science team distills people and illnesses from conflicting medical information, show the difficulties of using public tools with private health information, and demonstrate the enormous potential data science has to improve this complex industry for healthcare companies and patients alike.

Tristan Williams (http://www.linkedin.com/in/twilliams0591), Clover Health Tristan is a data scientist at Clover Health, where he uses analytics to improve healthcare outcomes for the Medicare community. Prior to joining the company, Tristan was part of the data science team at Mattermark, a data platform for venture capital firms to quantify growth signals and potentially lucrative startups where he was responsible for automating processes to acquire new sources of data, improve current information, and increase consumer value.

Tristan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Math from Claremont McKenna College and a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from UC Berkeley.

Talk 2: Bringing Data Science Online for Health Tech Companies
Setting up an analytics stack can be challenging for any company. Regulations in the healthcare space make the task even more challenging for health tech companies. This talk will address how Mode, an analytics platform for teams who work with SQL and Python, is engineered to keep PHI safe. Derek will dive into the stories of how customers are using data to positively impact their companies, the industry, and, most importantly, people's health.

Derek has also worked in antitrust economics and on the monetization analytics team at Facebook.
