About us

Welcome to SF Fantasy Book Club! šŸ“šāœØ

Hello, I’m Deepshika! šŸ‘‹ By day, I’m a research scientist working on therapies for rare genetic diseases. By night, you’ll usually find me immersed in a fantasy novel. I love reading character-driven, epic fantasy books with imaginative world-building, and love discussing books with fellow readers. I also enjoy board games, the latest TV shows and movies, and exploring new coffee shops and restaurants around the city. Feel free to chat with me about any of these things! 😁

I’ve been running this club for almost two years, and one of my favorite things about it has been bringing together readers from across San Francisco and the Bay Area. We’re here to discover great books, have fun and thoughtful discussions, and hopefully make some new friends along the way.

šŸ“– What We Read & Discuss

Fantasy is our main focus, from epic adventures and intricate worldbuilding to character-driven stories and darker, morally complex worlds. We occasionally branch out into sci-fi and other genres when a book catches our interest.

Our discussions are relaxed and engaging. We love talking about characters, themes, worldbuilding, favorite moments, plot twists, and everything else that makes a book memorable. You don’t have to be an expert literary critic—just bring your curiosity and love of reading!

šŸ—“ļø How the Club Works

  • Meeting schedule: We usually meet on the third or fourth Saturday of the month, from 3–5 PM. During the holiday season, we may schedule meetings earlier in the month.
  • Book selection: We choose our books 2–3 months in advance so everyone has plenty of time to find a copy, borrow it from the library, and finish reading. We encourage everyone to finish the book before the meeting as all discussions will include full-spoilers.

šŸ¤ A Few Expectations

To keep the club enjoyable and fair for everyone, we ask members to:

  • Be kind and respectful. Everyone should feel comfortable sharing their opinions, even when they disagree about a book.
  • Be considerate with RSVPs. Please sign up only if you genuinely intend to attend. If your plans change, update your RSVP as soon as possible—ideally at least two weeks before the event—so someone on the waitlist has time to join and read the book. Because our group is small, repeated no-shows without notice may affect eligibility for future events.

šŸ’Œ Want to Join Us?

New members are always welcome! If an event is full, feel free to join the waitlist. Since spots are limited, I prioritize returning members who have participated regularly and been reliable with their RSVPs, while also making room for new readers.

Excited about a particular book? Feel free to send me a message!

If you love fantasy, enjoy sharing your thoughts about books, and would like to meet fellow readers in the Bay Area, we’d love to have you join us. Happy reading! šŸ“š
