Sketching Nob Hill with Liz Steel and Jane Blundell

Details

Australian sketchers Liz Steel (http://www.lizsteel.com/) and Jane Blundell (http://www.janeblundellart.com/) will be visiting San Francisco and want to join us for a day of sketching on the heights of our fair city. This is not a workshop—just a chance to hang out and sketch together. (Hopefully we can tempt them both to come back and teach workshops here in the future.)

This neighborhood has a huge variety of buildings to sketch, including the baroque extravaganza of Hotel Fairmount, the gothic splendor of Grace Cathedral (http://www.gracecathedral.org/) and the deco geometry of the Masonic Hall. And then there are the views down steep streets in every direction, with cable car tracks running down California and Hyde Streets.

Inside the Cathedral there are glowing colors from the stained glass windows and Jacob's Dream (https://www.gracecathedral.org/artist-in-residence/) light installation and an eclectic collection of art, from the murals depicting SF history to the Keith Haring altar.

12:30 Meet outside the cathedral to the right of the main entrance, by the outdoor labyrinth. Text Laurie (415) 533-9983 if you can't find us.

3:30 Meet in Huntington Park, across Taylor street from the Cathedral to share sketches and chat. (If you need coffee, grab a cup of Peet's from the kiosk in the basement of the Cathedral.)

GETTING THERE

Transit: The #1 and #27 buses go very close, and there are several cable car lines in this area.

Car: Finding a street parking spot is difficult but probably not impossible. There are a number of commercial garages in the area if you'd prefer to just pay and get it over with.

Bicycle: Only an option for the strong of leg as these hills are steep. Approaching the area, there's a bike line most of the way along Polk.

BRING

• Water, sunscreen, hat, wind jacket

• A stool or pad to sit on will make sidewalk sketching more comfortable.
