SF LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE
Uno Dos Tacos 595 Market St, St
FIRST SATURDAY URBAN SKETCHERS will be joining up with the SF urban sketching groups to sketch the SF Lunar New Year Parade! Please note the time difference! This begins at 3:45pm, ending at 6pm
Details
It will be the year of the Horse, and San Francisco has the biggest Lunar New Year Parade outside of Asia to launch it. We'll be sketching in the staging area while all the parade people are standing around the floats getting ready before they march. The parade goes ahead even if it rains, and there are plenty of store overhangs for sketchers to shelter under.
3:45 Meet on the steps outside Uno Dos Tacos, on Stevenson Street at 2nd.
4:00 Stroll around the staging area (south on Second St. and east on Market) and sketch until the parade gets underway at 5:15.
5:45 Meet up at the steps outside Uno Dos Tacos again to share sketches and chat. (If anyone knows of a quieter place to meet up afterwards, please post in the Comments!)
OPTIONAL EXTRA If you want to watch the whole parade after looking at everybody's sketches, you can dash one block over to Kearny Street and catch the parade when it doubles back.
BRING
• Something to sit on, like a folding stool.
• Warm clothes, hat and gloves.
• Bring your fluorescent paints and gold markers to capture the full technicolor effects of the costumes and floats.
GETTING THERE
Montgomery is the closest Bart/Muni station. Parking will be really really scarce, so take public transit if possible. Remember that much of Market and Kearny Streets will be closed to traffic, disrupting the usual bus routes, so better to take underground transit if possible. More info about parking and transit.
