Oakland Bonsai Garden

The Oakland Bonsai Garden is a self-contained unit inside of the Gardens at Lake Merritt. which are inside the fenced area to the right of the Lakeside Garden Center,
all within Lakeside Park in Oakland. Outer gate opens at 8am, but the Oakland Bonsai Garden opens only at 10 am. Several dozen bonsai sculpted trees sit on eye-level pedestals along the garden paths. You can sketch from the benches within the garden or sketch along the paths while not blocking access. You can also preview many trees at https://bonsailakemerritt.com.

Driving directions: From either direction on I-580, exit at Harrison Street/Oakland Ave. and follow Harrison Street westerly about 2/3 mile to the traffic light at Harrison & Grand Ave. Turn left onto Grand Ave. and follow Grand Ave. to Lakeside Park past Children's Fairyland. There's metered parking on Grand or flat fee parking past the entry kiosk on Bellevue.
