Filipino-American culture at the Pistahan Parade

Celebrate the Filipino-American community’s struggles, triumphs and lively culture in the largest Pistahan parade on the West Coast.
There will be lots of colorful clothing to sketch, with music, dancing and floats.

10:00 Meet in front of the Asian Art Museum, by the Lion statue on the right side. The parade will be staging along Larkin Street, and we’ll have at least an hour to sketch the participants while they’re standing around waiting to march. The front of the parade will take off around 11:00 but there will be extra time to sketch to sketch the floats at the back of the parade.

Noon: Meet up again on the grass on the right of that Lion to share sketches and chat.

Optional extra: Follow the parade down Market Street to Yerba Buena Gardens at 4th and Mission for the Festival. Watch dance, hip-hop, jazz and martial arts on the main stage, check out the art, dance, culinary, sports pavilions, and more. (I’ll be there for the Ice Cream Tasting Bee!) If you can’t make it Saturday, the festival continues on Sunday (11-5 both days) and you can still post your sketches to the meetup group.
