Even on the foggiest days there's usually a window of a few hours in Bernal when the sun comes out and you can see far out across the city and the bay. If you walk up the road to the very top, there's a perfect sketching spot where you can sit on tree roots under tall pines and look east as far as Mt. Diablo. Or walk farther around the top to see out over the Mission to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge and Mt.Tam.

At 3:00 we'll meet back under the trees and walk 3 blocks down the hill to Cortland and look for a cafe with open tables. (if you miss the group, look for us on the corner of Cortland and Bennington or text me at 533-9983.

Special this time: Bring an example of someone else's sketching that inspires you for showing to the group. It can be a book, printout, or something online. (I'll bring my iPad to the cafe so we can look at any online images you want to show.)

Got a dog? The top of Bernal hill is a popular off-leash dog area. If you want to bring your pet along on this meetup there will be lots of other dogs for him/her to play with, and probably other dogs tied up outside the cafe at the end.

How to get there

Bus: The #24 runs along Cortland, and the #67 goes over the top of the hill.

Bike: The hill is steep, but people do ride up it. Bike parking on the hill is reasonably secure or you can keep your bike with you.

Car: There is usually room to park at the top of the hill (for a short walk at the beginning). Or you can park down in cafe territory, near Cortland and Bennington (for a short walk at the end).
