NOTE THE LOCATION AGAIN! Keeping you all on your toes!

The February meetup always catches me by surprise. "The meetups not for another couple of weeks, we just had one!" Jk, it's in a few days.

Luckily, Casey raised his hand to give a talk all the way back in 2022. Everyone be like Casey, if you want to earn a very special place in my heart in perpetuity, come find me and raise your hand for a talk 3 months down the road. ❤️ And since Casey was talking about players, I was able to convince some coworkers doing interesting stuff with players to just make it a Player Party.

The AV system in the main area we were using at Mux is also dead (shoutout Crestron), so we're going to be finding new homes for a bit. This month's amazing host is Akamai thanks to the one and only Will Law.

Other Demuxed stuff
You heard it here first, the Demuxed podcast episode we recorded in January is about to go live. This is trying out a new format that we want to try out doing monthly from here on out with interviews interspersed, but we'd love your feedback! Also, if you want to be on a podcast episode and speak at a future meetup, that's a special place in my heart and the the Demuxed community's. Just sayin.

🎤 Speakers

🗣️ Casey Occhialini (Paramount) - A proposal for a common media playback library

Have you ever found yourself implementing the same feature across multiple open source video players? Ever need to “borrow” a piece functionality from a player just to find that it was “borrowed” from somewhere else? Is it time to focus our efforts on a common set of utilities for web media playback?

🗣️ Dylan Jhaveri and Wesley Luyten (Mux) - Building Media Chrome themes with plain HTML...almost

A thought around Media Chrome since the beginning has been: "how can we make it easier for folks to share and remix player themes?" Well, a new path to custom themes just dropped, and it's here in all it's HTML glory. We'll talk about how it works, the kind of things it enables, and what's next.

IRL Logistics: Akamai office
When people arrive at 799 Market they will need to knock on the door and announce that they are here for the Akamai/SF Video Tech event and the security guard will let them in and put them in the elevator for the 6th floor. At the 6th floor, they’ll need to knock again on the Akamai door and one of us will let them in.

Can't wait to see folks!

COVID-19 safety measures
