The ...web socket?
Ok that's a stretch, but the theme for this month is QUIC and we've got some stacked talks about it. Jordi is flying in from Barcelona (not Seattle, as previously reported) and we're lucky enough to get our second Will Law appearance despite him abandoning us/the Bay soon (it's fine, Will, we're not bitter).
We'll have a fresh face hosting/emceeing this month. You may know him as "that 2022 Demuxed speaker with a mustache rivaling Tom Selleck," but Walker is taking the SF Video helm this month.
𝕏 Demuxed
ICYMI: The Demuxed CFP is open! We haven't really said this publicly yet, so this is an inside scoop, but unfortunately our planned venue (Bespoke) cancelled events this fall. We're working on a new home, but for now just assume "somewhere in SF." Feel free to reach out to info@demuxed.com if you have any questions about your proposal, want feedback, etc, and, as always, if you're interested in sponsoring, shoot a note to sponsor@demuxed.com!
Ok, without further ado...
🎤 This month's speakers
🗣️ Jordi Cenzano (Meta) - Media Over QUIC end to end proof of concept
Media over QUIC is an IETF proposal for a media transport protocol that can accommodate most the online media use cases we see today (started focused on live).
To start proving some of the novel ideas of the working group we developed and open sourced an end to end proof of concept that runs fully inside the browser and leverages latest / brightest media technologies such as webCodecs and webTransport
🗣️ Will Law (Akamai) - The Push to Pub/Sub
This presentation examines the opportunity to move media over QUIC. We'll examines media over H3 performance in the field, look at what needs to change in media formats to really leverage the capabilities of QUIC, the opportunities around selective repair and the rational for developing (yet another) new format. We'll report on the current state of IETF MoQ drafts, the issues under consideration, the timeline over the next few months, and then end with some demonstrations of early MoQ prototypes.
IRL Logistics
Our host building has security people downstairs, and they require us to have a list of names downstairs for check-in. Just to make sure we can have everyone printed out, please make sure to RSVP by ~5pm on Thursday.
Mux put together a page on details for getting in, COVID protocols, etc. Everyone needs to be fully vaccinated and there are specific check-in instructions on the page.
Can't wait to see folks!
