Monthly Video Meetup

Details
✨🕧🚨 NOTE THE TIME CHANGE: We're trying out 6pm this month🚨🕧✨
I got a suggestion that folks might appreciate an earlier start given that many folks' commutes have changed since the pandemic. It hadn't dawned on me, but it makes sense, so we're giving it a try this month.
Timing will be similar to usual, just pushed up 30 minutes. Doors open at 6, talks will start ~6:30. Please give feedback, and let us know if this is better/worse/same for you!
We've got the best kind of hodgepodge this month. Mokshith gave an excellent talk about interesting ML work they were doing at Sieve last year, and since then their work has evolved quite a bit.
After the full-length talk by Mokshith, the venerable Phil Cluff, my Demuxed partner in crime and and video nerd with a posh accent, is going to wing it about some SRT crimes he's committed. Then yours truly, Matt, is going to give a quasi-impromptu update to the Service Worker presentation I did a few months ago, but this time focusing on media manipulation + "isomorphic" magic. It's gonna be fun, be there or be...macroblock or something.
𝙓 Demuxed updates
Some of you have heard by now, but things got weird with the Demuxed venue. I'll be honest: we did not make a contingency plan for the entire mall closing and our venue going into liquidation. We've got holds at other venues, but depending on how the latest round of proposals shake out, we might end up having to take 2 of the 3 days we'd planned or get creative in other ways. Keep an eye out for more info in the upcoming Demuxed newsletter.
On that note, until we're able to finalize the venue, we're keeping the CFP open. Also, [Demuxed.com](https://demuxed.com) got a facelift and actually stays up to date now. Everyone clap.
Anyway, onto the details of this month's SF Video meetup!
🎤 Speakers
🗣️Mokshith Voodarla (Sieve) - Machine Learning on Video: A Breakdown of Useful Models, Traditional Algorithms, and Common Infrastructure Challenges
Get ready to dive into a treasure trove of mind-blowing new research in video AI analytics, search, and generation. Learn more about why video is so much harder than images, and the kinds of things people are practically doing with new algorithms that keep coming out. We'll also discuss some of the infrastructure challenges people face specifically with video, and maybe demo some of Sieve — a product that helps you build all sorts of cool things in video AI.
🗣️ Phil Cluff (Mux/Demuxed/London Video Tech) - Some kind of lightning talk about things you shouldn't do re: SRT and FFmpeg
🗣️ Matt McClure - Also some kind of lightning talk update to the little service worker demo I did a few months ago. TL;DR, fun media hacks with Service Workers + the edge.
🕺 IRL Logistics
Our host building has security people downstairs, and they require us to have a list of names downstairs for check-in. Just to make sure we can have everyone printed out, please make sure to RSVP by ~5pm on Thursday.
Mux put together a page on details for getting in, COVID protocols, etc. Everyone needs to be fully vaccinated and there are specific check-in instructions on the page.
Can't wait to see folks!
