A Tuesday Visit to SF's new Barrel Room, but it is CASH PAYMENT ONLY

Details

Your only cost is your drinks plus tips. Because we are such a big group we all have to pay by CASH ONLY at the bar at street level then we walk down to the basement lounge to enjoy our drinks. We go to the new location of the Barrel Room wine bar which is not far from BART and is divided between their restaurant/tavern that opened in early May and their newest addition, the wine bar, that opened in mid June. They were previously located at 620 Post Street, SF. You can find us in the wine bar's basement.

I recently visited the new location for the first time and was so impressed with the basement area that I forgot to even look at their wine menu. Since then I brought a small group, 6, to try it out and they all liked it. The location is an easy walk from the Montgomery Street BART Station and it is full of history.

HISTORY: When the building was built, 1908, it was a Japanese Bank. Also, it was the consulate of Imperial Japan. Yoko Ono's father worked there, around 1935, when she was about 2 years old. He was then connected to espionage.

From the early 1970s to recent years it housed the "London Wine Bar," the historic first SF wine bar. We will be in the basement with the original bank vaults that we can walk inside. Also, the basement has a piano, a fake fire in a fake fireplace, chess table, and all kinds of furniture inside a bunch of rooms.

Yes, you may show up late. We will have a sign saying, "San Francisco Wine Lovers Group," plus sign-in-sheets and name tags for all attendees if more than 20 show up which will probably happen.
