In the San Francisco metro area, an $82,000 annual salary is considered “low income” for a single adult. For a family of four, the number is $117,400. For many students, a career in the technology sector is a clear way they can score a livable wage in a high cost of living part of the country.

But students can’t get there alone. Education will play a big role for many students, particularly those who come from underrepresented backgrounds. At this EdSurge HigherEd meetup, you’ll learn from three educators on how they and their organizations are approaching the problem. What do they think are the biggest challenges students from underrepresented backgrounds face when it comes to landing jobs in tech? How have they changed their instructional methods accordingly? We’ll ask those questions, and more, on October 17th with our panelists:

-JD YASKE, board member and programming class instructor, Gameheads
-JUDY LEE, associate professor and department chair at Golden Gate University
-KARA GARDNER, associate dean of faculty development, Minerva
-MICHELLE GLAUSER, founder and CEO, Techtonica
