Sunset Happy Hour & Ocean Beach Fire

Details

Hey Happy Hour Hikers!

Have you seen the forecast for the next week? It's time for another beach fire. And, sunset is at a glorious 8:30 this Friday.

An absolute highlight of living in SF is that you can sneak out after work to a bonfire on the beach...at sunset. Most residents don't know that only one SF beach allows this, Ocean Beach. And that right now is the allowable beach fire season!

So get on out there and meet some new people! We're a very friendly, welcoming group.

We will:

  • Sneak out of work extra early to lay claim to one of the 16 first-come-first-serve fire pits.
  • Buy enough firewood at Safeway for a nice warm fire lasting until 9:30 (when fires have to be put out)
  • Bring a table, bottle and wine openers, trash bags, and a speaker for music. And a frisbee. And bocee balls
  • We will be between stairwells 17 and 18 (yes, each Ocean Beach stairwell has a faint number at the top)

You Should:

  • Bring a favorite beach cocktail, can beer, or can/box wine.
  • DO NOT bring glass...the police (who will come by occasionally) don't like it.
  • Bring any food/snacks you want and any silverware/plates you need. Safeway is across the street. Bring s'mores ingredients to win the day.
  • Bring a beach chair or blanket if you want. Most people just stand.
  • Bring a jacket. Maybe hat/gloves too. No kidding. There can be a steady, cold breeze coming off the water. This ain't SoCal :)
  • Know that fires must be put out around 9:30. And bathrooms are across the road at the Beach Chalet.
  • Sneak out of work early. Ken & Abel will be there at 5:30 if you wanna join him!
  • Try not to drive: Take Lyft to 'Ocean beach fire Pits' or the 38 Bus. There is plenty of parking if you have a designated driver.

You Must:

  • Edit your RSVP if you can't make it. We are capping this @ 25 people. Please, please, please don't ghost and take the spot of someone who wanted to join the beach fire fun :)

If you want to kick-in for the cost of the firewood that Ken buys each time ($30-$40), please venmo $5 to @ken-barber. We'd love it! :)
