Details
Hey Happy Hour Hikers!
Brian and Ken want to kick off Labor Day weekend with a bonfire on Ocean Beach. If you're looking for plans and want to meet some new people, come on by
An absolute highlight of living in SF is that you can sneak out after work to a bonfire on the beach...at sunset. Most residents don't know that only one SF beach allows this, Ocean Beach. And that right now is the allowable beach fire season.
We will:
- Sneak out of work extra early to lay claim to one of the 16 first-come-first-serve fire pits.
- Buy enough firewood at Safeway for a nice warm fire lasting until 9:30 (when fires have to be put out)
- Bring a table, bottle and wine openers, trash bags, and a speaker for music. And a frisbee. And bocce ball.
- We will be at stairwell 18 (yes, each Ocean Beach stairwell has a faint number at the top)
You Should:
- Come whenever you want. We'll be there.
- Bring a favorite beach cocktail, can beer, or can/box wine.
- Do not bring glass if you "can".
- Bring any food/snacks you want and any silverware/plates you need. Safeway is across the street. Bring s'mores ingredients to win the day.
- Bring a beach chair or blanket if you want. Most people just stand.
- Bring a jacket. Maybe hat/gloves too. No kidding. There can be a steady, cold breeze coming off the water. This ain't SoCal :)
- Know that fires must be put out around 9:30. And bathrooms are across the road at the Beach Chalet.
- Try not to drive: Take Lyft to 'Ocean beach fire Pits' or the 38 Bus. There is plenty of parking if you have a designated driver.
If you want to kick-in for the cost of the firewood that Ken buys each time ($30-$40), please venmo $5 to @ken-barber. We'd love it! :)
