2. Talk by John Wetherill:

Cloud Foundry Containerization and Service Architecture

It’s certainly possible to build a PaaS without making use of containers, but a container-based PaaS brings significant advantages such as maximizing resource utilization, enabling secure safe multi-tenancy, and scalability. Naturally, Cloud Foundry is based on containerization, and uses a Cloud Foundry component called Warden to manage and orchestrate the containers.

This moderately technical talk will introduce containerization concepts, with a focus on how containers ensure and enforce isolation. The talk will then discuss how the Cloud Foundry service architecture takes advantages of containers.

1. Manuel Garcia, Cloud Foundry Practice Lead at Altoros, has more than 15 years of experience as a software developer, project manager and product manager. Being a Certified Scrum Master and agile practices advocate, he knows how important is to put the infrastructure, platforms and tools at the disposal of the developers and not the other way around.

John Wetherill, ActiveState's Developer Evangelist, has spent much of his career designing and building software at a handful of startups, at Sun Microsystems, NeXT Inc., and more recently in the smart grid and energy space. Currently, John is focused on sharing the power of ActiveState's Private PaaS offering Stackato with developers, CxOs, partners, and customers, while also contributing the core product code-base and building cloud-based proofs of concept.
