• SGVHAK Study Session [Raspberry Pi/AVR Programming]

    Tux Lab

*** Mask is required. Vaccination also required.***

The study session focuses on Derek Molloy's books on Raspberry Pi and Beaglebone, along with the Make: AVR Programming book. The Raspberry Pi book was published in 2016 and based on RPi 3, the Beaglebone book was published in 2015 and updated in 2019 to include PocketBeagle. The Make: AVR Programming book was published in 2014. These books are bit old but still relevant for learning about basic hardware circuits and programming.

Study sessions are fairly dry and boring. Bring a laptop, and we have extra RPi and ATMega328p to try out the book examples and get started.

Utilizing the materials from the books, we will begin building a simple rover platform, ie monitoring the Li-ion battery pack via ADC (AVR Chap 07), Motor driver control via PWM (AVR Chap10), reading the motor encoder via Hardware ISR, Interrupt Service Routine (Chap 08), communication with RPi vis SPI or I2C (Chap 16 or 17). We will breadboard the circuits before moving to designing the PCB via KiCAD.

  • SGV Linux Users Group Monthly Meeting

    Needs a location

We normally meet for dinner and a presentation, with dinner beginning at 7pm and presentations starting around 7:45 to 8pm. We usually meet at some regular locations in Pasadena and will update the Meetup closer to the date once everything has been confirmed.

---- SGVLUG is one of the oldest and most active Linux User Groups in the Greater Los Angeles area. In addition to Linux, the group also shares interests in other free and open source software, all forms of technology, and the discussion of issues that arise with the these new tools, such as privacy rights. SGVLUG attracts members from throughout LA County including Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, and eastward throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Our members include software developers, system administrators, hardware engineers, and software users of all levels of experience. Many work in the technology field as employees, contractors or consultants, and enjoy the learning and networking opportunities available from the group. We also have many members that serve as volunteers of their time and skills at various local events, including the annual Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE).
