At our recent meet-up, someone recommended we check out Ecclesall Woods later in August as apparently there are lots of mushrooms, berries, fruit etc to forage at this time of year. Let's see what we find!

As ever, we'll be walking quite slowly and stopping regularly to forage and ID trees – so there'll be plenty of time to get to know each other. Everyone is welcome to come along for as long (or short) as you like, and kids and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

We'll take care not to pick too much from any one area in order to avoid damaging the plants or the wider ecosystem. This way, we'll ensure there is plenty to pick throughout the season and in future years.

You might want to bring:

  • Plastic or cotton bags for carrying potential foragings
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Suncream and/or waterproofs

Sophie will bring foraging books to help us identify edible plants. Take a look at this guide for an idea of what's available in August, and feel free to bring your own books or to use apps like PlantNet or iNaturalist on your phone – we're all amateurs learning about foraging together.

Feel free to connect with us ahead of time for foraging ideas, finds and recipes via the WhatsApp Group.

Please note: This is not a guided walk, but a group of people coming together to learn about and collect wild food. You are responsible for your own safety throughout the event, and for only consuming things you consider to be safe.
