November foraging
Details
We’re hoping to find sweet chestnuts and some mushrooms to identify, but don’t expect much at this time of year. We'll be walking quite slowly and stopping regularly to forage – so there'll be plenty of time to get to know each other. Everyone is welcome to come along for as long (or short) as you like, and kids and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
Please note: This is not a guided walk, but a group of people coming together to learn about and collect wild food. You are responsible for your own safety throughout the event, and for only consuming things you consider to be safe.
We'll take care not to pick too much from any one area in order to avoid damaging the plants or the wider ecosystem. This way, we'll ensure there is plenty to pick throughout the season and in future years.
You might want to bring:
- Plastic or cotton bags for carrying your foragings
- Comfortable shoes
- Waterproofs
If you don’t already have a guide, take a look at this (https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2017/10/foraging-in-November/) for an idea of what's available in November, and feel free to bring your own books or to use apps like PlantNet or iNaturalist on your phone – we're all amateurs learning about foraging together.
Feel free to connect with us ahead of time for foraging ideas, finds and recipes via the WhatsApp Group.
