GardenFest
Details
This is what it says in the title - a music festival in a garden. It's an annual event that combines music, drinks and fun, in support of a great local cause - The Sheffield Hospitals Charity Myeloma Appeal. Most of the musicians are doctors, consultants and researchers, some of them also play professionally in their free time.
Come for as long or as short a time as you like. Bring a chair and a picnic if you feel like making an evening of it. It's free entry - the fundraising comes mainly from from drink sales, so if you do byob, please be generous in your donation when the bucket comes round! ๐
(There's a back-story here... In 2015 my sister Jaqui was diagnosed with Myeloma, an incurable bone marrow cancer. She had months of brutal chemotherapy, then a stem-cell transplant, and wonderfully, that gave her 10 years remission!
However, in late 2024, the Myeloma came back, as we knew it eventually would. She again underwent a tough round of treatment. This time though, due largely to research funded by efforts like this event, she 'only' had to undergo 13 months of twice-weekly chemotherapy.
Thus far in 2026, she's in remission, so it looks like this treatment has been successful! ๐
We know the remission will end at some point, and the Myeloma will come back again. The aim and hope for the fund raising is that by that time, the research team will have developed a CURE! ๐)
