Walk up Padley gorge

We will meet at Sheffield station to catch the 11.14 train to Grindleford. Tickets are about £3.50 . Only buy a single because we will be returning by bus. The train stops at Dore for anyone wishing to board there. At Grindleford we will have a coffee and/or snack in the station cafe before starting our walk.

The walk is an ascending path all the way to the finish. The fist half mile is steep but levels out to a more gradual ascent and we will take a gentle pace with regular pauses. It is a very rocky path and walking boots or stout shoes, providing good ankle support, are required.

After leaving Padley Gorge we will cross a busy road and enter the Longshaw estate. We can briefly pause here to view a static exhibition of the area whilst we catch our breath. After a further 1/2 mile we will reach the cafe at Longshaw where we should have time for coffee and maybe a quick bite to eat.

Finally there is another 1/2 mile walk to the Fox House Hotel where there should be time for a drink before our bus home which is scheduled for 16.35 .

The walk in total is about 3.5 miles and should take about 2.5 hours at a gentle pace . It has had a full reconnaissance and risk assessment.
