Join the NOVA Hiking Collective to hike Old Rag Mountain! One of the most well known hikes in Shenandoah National Park, its known for its steep elevation and amazing views. We will be hiking the Old Rag Mountain Loop ( 9.3 miles, 2608 ft elevation gain).

Plan:
- We will meet in the parking lot at 9:00 am. There is an upper and lower lot of parking. Park wherever you like and we will meet up near the entrance station. Before starting the hike we will have to show our permits and park passes to the ranger at the entrance station. Screenshot your QR code permit before leaving home because there will likely be no service!!!
- We will be hiking at a moderate pace, stopping when necessary. Once we get through the main rock scramble we stop multiple times to enjoy the view, take pictures, and eat lunch.
- This hike could take anywhere from 5-6 hours to complete.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Old Rag is considered to be an advanced hike. It contains rock scrambles/climbing, and a large elevation gain. Its required that you have done other physically demanding hikes to participate.
- SNP requires that you buy a permit to be able to hike Old Rag mountain.
The permit is only $2.00 and can be purchased in advance from https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/10088450/ticket/10088451 .
They incorporated this rule due to the high traffic Old Rag brings in March-November. If you have committed to joining us on this hike I highly suggest buying the permit asap!

- In addition to the permit, its also required to have a park pass to hike old rag. Make sure to bring your pass if you have one or have a means to pay just in case! Typically the rule is one park pass per car, so carpool if you wish to do so!

- Organizers are volunteers, not professional guides. By choosing to attend this hiking event you accept the potential risks that can lead to serious injury or death.

On that note, we hope to see you there! :)
