Bootmakers Meeting, February 28, 2026
Details
The Bootmakers of Toronto will be considering the Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place. And for the first time in a long time, our speakers will all be Bootmakers!
Please welcome new member Burt Wolder, BSI, who will be our first speaker. Burt is a co-founder of the podcast I Hear of Sherlock Everywhere, which has been called "a cross between Fresh Air and Car Talk for Sherlockians". With 327 Episodes to date, it is probably the world's best known podcast on all things Sherlock Holmes. Burt is also a co-founder of the Trifles podcast, a longtime member of the BSI, and now, a Bootmaker as well! Burt will be speaking on the topic of The Canonical Empire, and telling us about Holmes' and Watson's personal experiences with the British Empire, and how the Empire influenced Holmes' cases. Not to be missed!
Our own Veronica Young will also present an Ode to the Bootmakers Newsletter. The Ode highlights typography terms which she taught during 27 years as a Graphic Arts Print instructor at a community college in New York, as well as the poetic composition.
The story wrap-up will be given by longtime Bootmaker Bob Coghill, MBt.
Karen Campbell tests our knowledge of dogs and horses with a quiz**,** and Karen Gold will provide the musical interlude with her usual aplomb. George Vanderburgh will generously offer up new prizes for the winners!
